St Paul is the larger and flatter of the two Pribilof Islands. However, it's low cliffs are home to thousands of seabirds. St Paul is also home to the largest known breeding population of Northern Fur Seals.

Oceanographically, St. Paul is surrounded by relatively shallow, continental shelf waters.

On St. Paul, field crews work with both species of murres and kittiwakes, as well as 3 species of auklets. Although the maritime refuge monitors kittiwakes and murres, currently there are no established programs for monitoring productivity in planktivorous auklets. Our project will provide insight into the physiological status and well-being of these auklets.
