Buldir Island, AK

Buldir is an uninhabited island towards the end of the Aleutian chain. It is home to 21 species of breeding seabirds, likely the highest seabird diversity in the North Pacific. Oceanographically, it is different from the other two sites in that it is surrounded by deep, cold, off shelf water.

Buldir is beautiful but rugged, so field work is extra-challenging out there. Our crews spend the summer scrambling over bouldered beaches and hiking over snowy passes on their quest for birds.
