Research Interests

My research applies animal model systems to study the neural control of breathing and breathing disorders.  This work is currently focused on understanding mechanisms that generate and regulate breathing, and characterizing the functional consequences of brainstem abnormalities related to the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The object is to better understand normal respiratory modulation and the pathophysiology of SIDS, and to determine diagnostic tests to identify infants at risk of SIDS as well as potential therapies to combat SIDS.

Teaching

I currently teach Biology 417 / 617 (Neurobiology)
